King Creosote - 678

Along with Adem, Devendra Banhart and other modern-tinged troubadours, King Creosote is doing a fine job proving that folk is no longer the sole property of wooly cardigan-clad traditionalists, who have been distinctly silent since the release of the triumphant piss-take film 'A Mighty Wind'. Minimalistic, honest and powerful, '678' is as uplifting and airplay-ready as it is intimate and personal ("at the back of my mind, I was always hoping I might just get by"). As warm and comforting as a hot water bottle, '678' is further evidence that folk has truly shaken off its clichés (except, of course, for the odd ill-chosen cardigan).
