The Young Knives - Here Comes The Rumour Mill

Toby Rogers 01/03/2006

Rating: 4/5

Steeped in charity shop chic the Young Knives are unashamed masters of rock recycling. Regurgitating melodies from Syd Barrett's Floyd, the Who Sell Out and a bevy of British indie bands they are a group decidedly out of step with the times.

Fusing jagged guitar lines, lollipop psychedelia and 80's new wave vogue Here Comes The Rumour Mill is a thrilling cut of modern English eccentro-pop. Taking a skewed eye view of British life these boys are the surrealist's Arctic Monkeys. Full of barbarous satire and sly wit, Here Comes The Rumour Mill is a superb assault on contemporary culture.

Don't be fooled by the seventies suits and geography teacher looks, The Young Knives are as rock 'n' roll as they come. If you like serrated riffs with a whimsical twist you'd better have a listen.
