The KBC - Not Anymore

No information, no clues, just a CD wallet and a black and white slip of paper with the band and tracklist. This non-descript packaging precedes a fairly average demo, too.

Both tracks here, 'Not Anymore' and 'KBC', see upbeat, disco-tinged rock with echoing guitar lines and electro sounds punctuating the music every so often. The vocals on 'Not Anymore' are vaguely reminiscent of the style of Manic Street Preachers, though the comparison ends there. A fairly simplistic mix of guitars and disco beats, the chorus takes its melodic guitar refrain unwittingly from a recent Rachel Stevens hit: catchy and poppy.

Writing a song about yourself, as The KBC do on track two, is generally a bad idea, likely to bring to mind such acts as S Club 7, Spice Girls and the Cheeky Girls. Luckily, it's not THAT bad. Again an uptempo disco affair, the high pitched guitar line sounds rather unfortunately like Monster by The Automatic, a sound comparison which might well be banded about with The KBC a lot. These beatniks have jumped onto the electro-aided rock wagon at the right time, but this demo is plain, despite its pace, and is ultimately inconspicuous and forgettable.
