Foretold - A Whole World Down

“Stuck in the past” is the best catch-all term for this band. And it's not even a good period of musical history that they're plundering here; no it's the strange times of 80's metal, and more specifically the New Wave of British Heavy Metal or NWOBHM to give it its clumsy acronym.

Taking Classical sounding twin guitar licks (like Thin Lizzy covering something by Yngwie Malmsteen), reasonably heavy riffs, erratic time changes and chromatic bass lines, Foretold are sometimes listenable but more often than not; not. Throw the Red Hot Chilli Peppers' grating melodic workouts into the above and you've got one hell of a mess - on one track (Morbid Symphony, I think) the cut from fuzzed up distortion to an FX laden clean passage is just crude.

No doubt someone will like it; I'm just not sure who.
