Joff Winks Band - Share My Blues

The Joff Winks Band come across on their press release as an intriguing blend of Neil Young, Steely Dan, Frank Zappa and the Flaming Lips. On the basis of this single alone though I'd offer the more succinct summation that they're an average Pearl Jam tribute band sans Eddie Vedder. “Share My Blues” is commercial pop rock fare designed for mass consumption. Sticking to the well worn quiet/loud dynamic, it trundles on for four minutes without so much as a ridiculously over the top guitar solo for company. It's all competently played of course and the production is suitably stadium sized but it lacks the essential edge which makes a great song. I wanted to like this more as the band's press release mentions one of the all-time great cartoons a.k.a. “The Mysterious Cities Of Gold” but unfortunately it doesn't really move me in quite the way I'd hoped.
