Dead Pixels - Not Tonight/Thousand Yard Stare

Euro electro types Dead Pixels are Danish chanteuse Lone Blomhoj, Peter "Bateman" Simmons and Diesel U-Music Award-winning producer Gram "Kleiko" Gaughan. This is their debut double A side release. According to their press release their songs are built upon “Sleaze, sex and economy clingflim!"
A side “Not Tonight” sneers into view with scatchy Glam guitars, above clicking dark disco beats that leave room for Lone's ice cool, Goldfrappy delivery: indeed the way her voice juxtaposes a come-hither gyrate with finger shaking, “you're not getting any tonight son” lyrics in the repeated chorus refrain (“It could be so right, but not tonight”), is initially a treat. My one reservation about this track is that it never moves on from there, the highlight is more or less repeated throughout, only the swirling Garbage-esque segue near the end offers any real variety.

Probably just that bit better is double A, “Thousand Yard Stare”, in which glitchy S+M beats and dirty suburban post punk guitar are tied up tight by Lone's sultry vocal that are mildly reminiscent of Debbie Harry.

With so much competition in the electroclash disco field, Dead Pixels may find it hard to get a look in on an already over crowded dance floor, but this single shows enough promise to suggest that they could be ones to keep your eyes on. I'll see you on the dance floor.
