Sevaloco - Forever Continues This Way

To enter the world of Metal music is to enter a forest of thorns. The amount of genres, and elitists willing to go out of their way to define these genres exactly, and berate anyone who dares to classify a band incorrectly, is truly daunting. Therefore I'm reluctant to define Sevaloco as metalcore, deathcore, thrash metal, or any of their variants. But, whatever this second EP from the Stevenage-based band
makes them, they're pretty great.

This EP is an instantly refreshing experience, and over its 21 minute running time, manages to almost keep up its high standards. Opener 'The End Is Waving Us Goodbye' is by a long way the best song of the five on offer here, and is reminiscent of Killswitch Engage at their best, which is a very good thing. However, it is never a good idea to make the first song on your EP also the best one, as everything else pales in comparison. Sure it still has the same heavy riffs and excellent vocals (some of the best from the new british metal scene) but it just lacks the accesibility factor of that opening blast. 'At The Bottom' is as heavy as the EP gets, and has a chorus that could get even the biggest Kooks fan into a circle pit, but as the five tracks play out, the level slowly goes down until closer 'The Last Day Of Sun', a furious ending that lasts
almost six minutes; a whole four minutes longer than my attention span could manage by the time I'd reached it.

All in all, though, this is a solid, ferocious second EP from this upcoming metal act, and one that is not to be missed by fans of all things heavy, no matter how strict they are about "defending the faith".
