Avenged Sevenfold - Burn It Down
Tim Miller 12/06/2006
Rating: 1/5
The first time I heard Avenged Sevenfold, I laughed, genuinely, for quite a long time. This is a different song to my first encounter, but it's still funny. Squealing guitars with Iron Maiden melodies, pointlessly fast bass drum peddling, with what sounds like Pete Wentz from Fallout Boy singing with a peg on his nose.
The emo tinge to this otherwise standard hair-metal affair means the inclusion of obligatory self-indulgent woe-is-me lyrics dispatched with stadium-sized harmonies over verses of toneless drop-D guitar pummelling. It's five minutes of post-heavy metal heavy metal done so well that it's a parody of itself. To quote Homer Simpson, I'm laughing, but it's a laugh of impatience.
